Lakena (occasionally Lakina ) is the second largest island of the Nanumea Atoll in the South Pacific island state of Tuvalu . It is also the northernmost island of Tuvalu. Lakena is 1.24 square kilometers. The main town is Lakena in the south .

The forested island is located five kilometers northwest of the main island Nanumea , is 2.25 kilometers long and on average 560 meters wide. In the southeast of the island there is a rare freshwater lens ( Tuvaluan Tekoko , German  about Bad ), where swamp taro ( Cyrtosperma merkusii ) (Tuvaluan pulaka ) is grown. This is the main source of carbohydrates on the Nanumea Atoll.
