Lakeside is a small town at the south end of Lake Windermere , Cumbria in England . Lakeside is on the Furness Peninsula and was part of Lancashire until 1974 . Lakeside was developed as a ship landing stage when the Furness Railway reached the place in 1869. Ships on Lake Windermere no longer had to cross the Leven and tourists could easily reach the Lake District here.

The Ulverston railway line was closed to regular operation in 1965 and is now only operated between Lakeside and Haverthwaite as a museum railway by the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway .
