Lam Akol Ajawin (born July 15, 1950 in Athidhwoi, A'ali an-Nil , today's South Sudan ) is a South Sudanese politician. He is a senior member of the Sudanese People's Liberation Army (SPLA) and was Foreign Minister of the Government of Sudan from September 20, 2005 to October 16, 2007 before the country gained independence .

Akol belongs to the South Sudanese Shilluk ethnic group . He studied at Khartoum University and in Great Britain. In April 1986 he left the university and joined the Sudanese People's Liberation Army (SPLA). Within the SPLA he turned against the SPLA leader John Garang from 1991 to 2003 together with the Nuer Riek Machar in the SPLA Nasir faction and switched to the side of the government of Sudan, so that from 1998 to 2002 he became Minister of Transport in Sudan .

On October 11, 2007, Akol and 17 other members of the South Sudanese government suspended their participation in the government because the government did not properly implement the provisions of the 2005 peace agreement.

In October 2007, Omar al-Bashir dismissed Lam Akol as foreign minister by presidential release. This happened at the request of the SPLM , which suspended its participation in the government on October 11, 2007, among other things because of the President's refusal to dismiss Akol. Deng Alor was appointed as the new foreign minister.
