Lamaholot or Solor , Solorese , is a dialect cluster spoken in the east of the island of Flores , on Solor , Lembata and Pantar . It is one of the central-eastern Malayo-Polynesian languages of the Malayo-Polynesian languages within the Austronesian languages . The Lamaholot consists of around 35 dialects, of which only two have been investigated in more detail so far, namely that of the traditional whaling village of Lamalera on Lembata and that of the village of Belogili in the east Florinese district (Kabupaten) Tanjung Bunga, which in turn was formerly associated with the villages of Kawaliwu, Leworahang, Lewotala, Riangkotek and Lamatou formed a political association called Lewolema, which is still a dialectal unit today. An older, foreign name common in Rajatum Larantuka for the language spoken in the "forests" of the hinterland is kodak kiwan ( kodak "language, to speak"; kiwan "hinterland, wooded mountain region"). The German missionary Father Paul Arndt, who examined the Lamaholot spoken on the island of Solor, called it the "Solor language". He also wrote the first grammar of the Lamaholot, which, however, no longer meets modern standards. The morphological description of the Lamaholot by the Indonesian linguist Gregorius Keraf is based on investigations in the village of Lamalera. A first comprehensive, trilingual dictionary of the Lamaholot on the basis of the dialect spoken in the Lewolema area was published in 1999 by the linguist Karl-Heinz Pampus. Together with Yohanes E. Lamuri he is also the author of an Indonesian dictionary of the Lewolema dialect of the Lamaholot, which has been published in several editions since 2001.
