Lamb is an English band from Manchester , which was founded in 1996 and is stylistically assigned to trip-hop . It consists of the singer Louise Rhodes , the keyboardist and percussionist Andy Barlow and various guest musicians. Some of her songs have also appeared in commercials (e.g. Gabriel for Opel , Heaven for Audi and Górecki for Tomb Raider: Underworld ).

style

Initially influenced by drum and bass and jazz , its sound gradually shifted towards pop music without giving up its peculiarities. The attraction of their music lies in a balance of harmonic and melodic echoes and deliberately set idiosyncrasies that can be shown in samples , rhythms, melodies or Louise's voice.

Gorecki , one of her most famous songs, was inspired by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki's Third Symphony .

history

Signed setlist , September 2004

The Lamb duo has its origins in Manchester. His first single, which was very well received, was Cotton Wool in 1996. This was followed by their debut album Lamb , which is one of the pioneers of trip-hop.

Louise Rhodes, who is responsible for the voice and substance of the songs, was introduced to music from an early age by her mother, who is interested in folk . As a child she took part in their performances. The music did not let her go: She was inspired by singers like Joni Mitchell , Donny Hathaway as well as soul and hip-hop . For a while she worked successfully as a fashion and music photographer. She first brought a piece from the radio to the music, after which she wrote her own song. This was followed by contacting Andrew Barlow, who initially reacted rather negatively, but then agreed to work together.

Like Louise, Andrew Barlow grew up in Manchester. His path to music began with a marching band , in which he already performed as a drummer at the age of nine. At the age of 16 he discovered hip-hop and occasionally played as a keyboard player in the band Mucky Pub . He later worked for minimum wage at SoWhat management and tinkered with his own songs after work. Hence z. B. the song Anafey .

In 2004 Lamb announced an artistic break. The live DVD recording announced in 2005 has not yet been released. In the meantime, Louise Rhodes released three solo albums that were stylistically far removed from Lamb. Andy Barlow was also working on a solo album, which he mainly produced in his home studio. It is called "LEAP ... and the net will appear" and was released in January 2011.

In late 2010, Lou and Andy announced a sequel to Lamb and began work on a new album in November. It was released on May 5th 2011 and was presented in two live concerts in Manchester and London on May 5th and 6th. Since it is the fifth album by the two, it is called "5". The sixth album, entitled Backspace Unwind , was released on October 13, 2014.

In September 2017, a new song called Illumina was presented on SoundCloud . From September 30th the band will go on their 21 Year Anniversary Tour . The concert in Manchester Cathedral on October 16 is due to be recorded and released on double CD and triple vinyl in early 2018.
