Lamba Doria
Lamba Doria , also Lamba D'Oria (* before 1250 in Genoa , † October 17, 1321 in Savona ) was a naval leader of the Republic of Genoa .
Lamba Doria was born the youngest of the four sons of Pietro and Mabilia Casiccia. He was the brother of Capitano del Popolo Oberto Doria, the other brothers were called Nicolò and Iacopo.
He is considered one of the best admirals of the Genoese along with his descendant Andrea Doria . In 1298, during the Curzola War, he defeated the Venetians in the naval battle of Curzola , where he captured the Venetian admiral Andrea Dandolo and several thousand Venetians. Marco Polo was among the prisoners .
After his triumphant return to Genoa, the commune gave him a palace in Piazza San Matteo. He was also appointed Capitano del Popolo . Emperor Heinrich VII gave him command of 40 galleys .
