The Lambeg drum ( Irish Druma Lann Bheag ) is a Northern Irish cylinder drum struck with two bamboo sticks . Like other large drums played in march music , it is worn vertically in front of the chest. They have an average diameter of 90 cm and a depth of 65 cm. It is used especially in parades by Northern Irish Protestants such as the Orange Order .

The origin of the drum is unclear. According to various accounts, the Lambeg drum could have come to Northern Ireland from Orange in the 17th century with English settlers or with William's army . It resembles the Basel drum of that time, the shape of which was gradually built in Northern Ireland.

The Lambeg drum is named after the village of Lambeg in County Antrim near Belfast , where it was possibly first played with bamboo sticks around 1894. Older, smaller drums were struck with boxwood mallets.
