Lance Blanks (born September 9, 1966 in Del Rio ) is a retired American basketball player . He played in the position of point guard and was drafted in the 1990 NBA draft in 26th place by the Detroit Pistons . Most recently he was General Manager of the Phoenix Suns .

Player career

Blanks attended the University of Texas at Austin . There played for the Texas Longhorns. Together with his teammates Travis Mays and Joey Wright, they were known as the BMW Scoring Machine . In the 1989/90 season they reached the Elite Eight in the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship .

In the NBA, Blanks played two years for the Detroit Pistons and one year for the Minnesota Timberwolves . He scored an average of 2.0 points per game and reached the playoffs twice.

In the 1994/95 season Blanks played for MTV Giessen in the basketball league . He averaged 16.5 points per game.

Scouting / General Manager

Blanks was General Manager of Phoenix Suns from August 2010 to April 2013 . Previously, he was co-general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers for five years . Prior to that, he was a Scout with the San Antonio Spurs and was named Director of Scouting in September 2002. Banks also worked as a television analyst for Spurs in the 2004-2005 season .

Personal

Blank's father is former AFL / NHL player Sid Blanks and his cousin Larvell Blanks played in the MLB.
