text
- original
- Dear Land of Hope, thy hope is crowned.
- God make thee mightier yet!
- On Sov'ran brows, beloved, renowned,
- Once more thy crown is set.
- Thine equal laws, gained by Freedom,
- Have ruled thee well and long;
- By Freedom gained, maintained by Truth,
- Thine Empire shall be strong.
- Chorus:
- Land of Hope and Glory,
- Mother of the Free,
- How shall we extol thee,
- Who are born of thee?
- Against still and against
- Shall thy bounds be set;
- |: God, who made thee mighty,
- Make thee mightier yet. : |
- Thy fame is ancient as the days,
- As Ocean large and wide:
- A pride that dares, and heeds not praise,
- A star and silent pride.
- Not that false joy that dreams content
- With what our sires have won;
- The blood a hero sire hath spent
- Still nerves a hero son.

- translation
- Dear land of hope, your hope is crowned.
- May God make you even more powerful!
- On the ruler's brow, loved, famous,
- your crown will be set again.
- Your righteous laws, obtained through freedom,
- Have ruled you long and well;
- Gained by freedom, sustained by truth,
- Your kingdom will be strong.
- refrain
- Land of hope and glory,
- Mother of the free,
- How should we praise you
- we those born of you?
- On and on and on
- Should your limits be expanded;
- |: God, who made you mighty,
- May you make you even more powerful. : |
- Your fame is as old as the days
- Big and wide like the ocean:
- A pride that dares and ignores praise
- A strict and silent pride.
- Not the false joy that dreams happily
- With what our forefathers achieved;
- The blood that a hero father shed
- still strengthens a hero’s son.
