Landakotsskóli

The Landakotsskóli is a private school for children of 1st to 10th grade in Reykjavik , Iceland . It was founded in 1896 , making it one of the oldest schools in Iceland. In addition to the Icelandic classes, there is also an international department called the International Department of Landakotsskóli , where students are taught in English .

The private school is centrally located and provides students with modern equipment such as laptops and projectors in every room. There is also a large schoolyard and several green areas around the adjacent Landakotskirkja Catholic Cathedral , which the 250 students can use.

The school has been run by Ingibjörg Jóhannsdottir since 2014 .

Basics

Icelandic students are taught according to the national Icelandic curriculum, which emphasizes science, languages ​​and the arts. The International Department of Landakotsskóli has its own curriculum. Students learn according to the Cambridge curriculum , which focuses on languages ​​and science.

International Department

The International Department was founded in 2014 by Louise Hazel Harris . It was inspired by the different nationalities of the students. In Iceland, 10% of the population are foreigners and there were not enough opportunities for students with no knowledge of Icelandic.

The International Department has its own classrooms and employs other teachers, but is still part of Landakotsskóli. The aim is to give international families the opportunity to fit into the Icelandic culture and to make new contacts.
