The State Office for Museum Care supports the non-state museums , collections and museum facilities in Baden-Württemberg in fulfilling their tasks with the aim of working towards a well-structured, lively and visitor-friendly museum landscape.

Organization and tasks

The service and advice center is subordinate to the Ministry of Science, Research and Art and is assigned to the Landesmuseum Württemberg in Stuttgart as an independent department. The state office has existed in its current form since 1979, after the tasks of looking after the non-state museums in Baden-Württemberg were transferred from the State Monuments Office to the Württemberg State Museum. 1250 facilities are looked after.

The main task is, in addition to the financial support of the museums, the personal training and networking, especially the professional advice in all museum-related matters such as:

  • Registration, expansion and maintenance of the collections
  • Museum and exhibition concepts
  • Furnishing and design
  • Conservation and restoration
  • Mediation and visitor orientation
  • Organizational development and financial planning
