The State Association of Independent Archaeologists in Bavaria eV (abbreviation: SAB ) is a professional association of owners of private excavation companies and independent archaeologists in the Free State of Bavaria .

founding

The desire for a corporate representation of the interests of archaeological excavation companies arose at the beginning of the 1990s. Due to the increasing transfer of archaeological rescue excavations to excavation companies , a private market was formed in several federal states, including the Free State of Bavaria. From 1993 to 1996 there was the first association of this kind with the regional association of Bavarian excavation companies , from which the SAB emerged as the successor association in June 1996. The entry in the register of associations took place in 1997.

Members

The owners of the qualified companies have a degree in an archaeological subject (Magister / Master or higher), preferably with a major in Prehistory and Protohistory (or Prehistory and Protohistory) or Medieval Archeology . 36 owners of excavation companies and freelancers are currently organized in the association. In addition to the degree, the prerequisite for membership is that the owner has a tax office in the Free State of Bavaria and that the statutory self-commitment is recognized.

tasks and goals

The core tasks of the companies organized in the SAB are archaeological excavations in the area of registered ground monuments and archaeological suspected areas. The excavations cover the epochs of prehistory and early history , the Middle Ages and modern times . The results of these activities are published, for example, in the journal Das archäologische Jahr in Bayern .

The primary aim of the SAB is to represent the interests of its members, to stand up against restrictions of competition and to resolve unfair competition . As an association, the SAB is a member of the Competition Center . His tasks also include the dialogue with the monument authorities as well as scientific publications and public relations work in Bavarian archeology. The association is a member of the Society for Archeology in Bavaria (eV).

The listed procedures for archaeological excavations in Bavaria are carried out by the lower monument protection authorities . As conservation office has Bavarian State Conservation Office while an advisory role.
