The Neuwürschnitz flood retention basin is a flood retention basin in the Free State of Saxony . The structure is part of the flood protection measures for the Chemnitz region. The Würschnitz , which is still called the Beuthenbach here on its upper reaches, is dammed .

location

The Beuthenbach, which is dammed in the event of a flood

The retention basin is located in the Middle Ore Mountains on the corridor of the districts Oberwürschnitz and Neuwiese (both belong to the city of Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. ), Thierfeld (district of Hartenstein ) and Beutha and Oberdorf (districts of Stollberg / Erzgeb. ). The dam was built about 450 m south of the A 72 .

Building

The flood retention basin is designed as a controlled drying basin (so-called "green basin") and should only be dammed in during floods. Only from a discharge of 5 m³ / s this should be throttled to 1.5 m³ / s, i.e. about as much as the Würschnitz brings in at the confluence with the Zwönitz to the Chemnitz . If the pool is completely blocked, it can hold up to 923,000 m³. The dam height above the bottom of the terrain should be 12.5 m.

Construction work

Construction started on June 2, 2014, and was completed in autumn 2016. On November 9, 2016, a wet function test was successfully carried out. A trial jam was planned for the winter half of 2016/17. The cost was estimated at 20 million. The pool was inaugurated in June 2017. The construction progress could be followed by webcam . The first trial jam took place in February 2019.
