Thierfeld is a district of Hartenstein in the district of Zwickau , Saxony .

history

The village emerged as a Waldhufendorf around 1170 and was part of the County of Hartenstein , which was named after 1280 and was a Schönburg dominion from 1406 . The colonists were farmers from Franconia , Thuringia and the Upper Palatinate . They began to reclaim the then forested area. The result was a single-row forest hoof village oriented along the Thierfelder Bach with 23 estates of 25–30 hectares each. The properties (hooves) ran from west to east. Close to the house, connected to the brook and village road, meadows and fields for agriculture and on the outer borders forest - the hooves provided a good basis for farm work and life. Over time, the structure was influenced by cottage buildings and other small building projects, but remained roughly the same. However, today's village street no longer corresponds to the course of the original path along the Bachaue. It was first mentioned in a document in 1385.

Two water castles were built at the northern and southern ends of the valley, when is unclear. The place was hit twice by the plague . The Thirty Years' War also left its mark. Thierfeld was also not spared from the First and Second World Wars . Today there are craft businesses, a wholesaler for sanitary ware, agricultural businesses and small timber factories. The first hang-gliding club in Saxony is now located on the former glider airfield. In addition, the Thierfeld fire brigade, which is stationed near the hang-glider club, is the second oldest fire brigade in Saxony.

The last name Thierfelder is derived from Thierfeld. This is particularly evident from the fact that by far most of the name bearers still live in the region around the town of Thierfeld.
