Memorial of the Hessian Cavalry Regiment

The Landgraf-Philipps-Anlage is a small park in Darmstadt . The 200 meter long and 40 meter wide facility was named after Landgrave Philipp . It is bordered by the street of the same name Landgraf-Philipps-Anlage and Hindenburgstraße.

In the center of the park is the Hessian Cavalry Regiment - Monument, also called The Dragoon Monument . The wide-spread monument on a three-step staircase is flanked by two columns with composite capitals on high pedestals , on which naked riders are posted with raised spears on soaring horses . The inscription on a plaque of the monument reads:

"The fallen of the Grand Ducal Hessian Guard - Dragoon - Regiment No. 23 / Grand Ducal Hessian Body - Dragoon - Regiment No. 24/1914 - 1918."

The draft of the monument, which was erected there in 1927, comes from the sculptor and architect, formerly a war volunteer in the Hessian Leibdragoner Regiment No. 24 and lecturer at the TH Darmstadt, Georg Blass (1890–1968). Other inscription panels remind of the wars in which Hessian cavalry regiments were involved between 1790 and 1945.
