The Latvian district of Ludza ( Latvian : Ludzas apriņķis , since 1949 Ludzas rajons ) was an administrative unit in Latvia from 1918 to 2009.
Historically part of the Livonia Voivodeship ( trakt lucyński , 1629–1772), the Vitebsk Governorate ( Люцинский уезд , 1802–1917).
Geographical location
The Ludza district stretched east of Riga on the territory of Latgale and was delimited by:
- the district of Krāslava and Belarus in the south,
- the Rēzekne district in the west,
- the district of Balvi in the north and
- Russia in the east.
