Belvedere Landscape Park

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Belvedere Landscape Park is a Cologne park between Müngersdorf and Bocklemünd . It completes the Outer Cologne Green Belt and is part of one of the corridors that connect it with the Rhineland Nature Park .

history

Construction sign

The farmland in the former rayon of the Cologne fortress ring was reserved for the Cologne green belt after its abandonment under the Lord Mayor Konrad Adenauer . Up until then, the country had been subject to legal planning restrictions that still resulted from the Rayon Act . However, the Second World War prevented a complete expansion of the green belt and the project fell out of focus during the reconstruction. It was only when these areas were to be converted into a commercial area that a citizens' initiative was formed. They received prominent support through the Friends and Sponsors' Association for the Completion of the Outer Green Belt under the patronage of Adenauer's heirs.

The landscape park was named after the oldest surviving railway station in Germany, the former Belvedere station . The street named after the train station crosses the area.

The missing funding for the establishment of a new public park then came through the RegioGrün project of the Regionale 2010 . Project partners were the Friends of the Belvedere Landscape Park , the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research and the Rhenish Cultural Landscape Foundation .

Special components

Eye-
catching viewing platform
Bicycle road through the A1 motorway as a gateway to the landscape park

The viewing platforms “Domblick” (9 m high), “Outlook” (5.6 m high), “Blickfang” (3 m high) and “Feldblick” (only 80 cm high), inaugurated in 2014, are characteristic of the landscape park . The stainless steel constructions were not created by an artist, which is why the three rods are only decoration. The end with a ball was chosen so that no birds of prey choose these rods as a base and thus take away their habitat from endangered birds. There is also a bicycle road through the park. Some institutions and attractions are located in the Belvedere Landscape Park:
