The Rheinische Kulturlandschaft Foundation is a non-profit foundation and carries out nature conservation together with farmers by developing and implementing production-integrated nature conservation concepts.

tasks and goals

The preservation of the Rhenish cultural landscapes is closely linked to land use. It was only during centuries of cultivation by farmers that the cultural landscapes and, together with them, the biological diversity of the Rhineland were able to develop.

The conservation foundation has set itself the task of preserving and promoting the uniqueness, diversity and beauty of the rural cultural landscapes as well as maintaining their sustainable usability and their biotope and biodiversity . With this in mind, it carries out nature conservation projects , takes on the fiduciary management of nature conservation areas, supports the regulation of interventions - from planning, through the search for areas and implementation of measures, to permanent maintenance or protection - prepares reports and helps clarify research questions . As a partner, she is available for questions relating to nature conservation, e.g. B. by farmers and foresters, landowners, cities and communities. It also carries out public and educational work on the subject of nature conservation through use . As part of the intervention regulation and species protection law , the foundation advocates production-integrated compensation measures . These are carried out under the motto nature conservation with agriculture together with farmers, so that agricultural areas remain in use, but at the same time nature conservation measures for species can be carried out in open fields .

founding

In 2003 the foundation was established by the Rhenish Agricultural Association in cooperation with the Chamber of Agriculture in North Rhine-Westphalia and operates in the administrative districts of Cologne and Düsseldorf . The idea of the foundation goes back largely to the funding project. This project was supported by the German Federal Environment Foundation (DBU) and the German Farmers' Association (DBV).
