Sorbian Film Production Group

The Sorbian Film Production Group ( Sorbian Serbska filmowa skupina ) was the youngest and last state-founded institution in the GDR , which was supposed to serve the maintenance and promotion of Sorbian culture .

Preparations for the founding began as early as 1979 and finally took place in 1980. The production group was based in Bautzen and was affiliated with the VEB DEFA studio for animated films in Dresden-Gorbitz .

The repertoire produced included short films and documentaries about the situation of the Sorbs , famous personalities and achievements of cultural heritage. Co-productions took place with studios in the Czech Republic , Poland , the USSR and in the SFR Yugoslavia .

As a rule, a Sorbian or German version of the works was produced. Furthermore, the Sorbian Film production group co-organized the Sorbian Film Days, which have taken place every two years since 1983.

After the fall of the Wall in 1990, the SORABIA Film Studio emerged from the production group. It is based in the House of the Sorbs in Bautzen and mainly produces documentaries about the life, culture and history of the Sorbs and other minorities. In addition, children's films and films for Sorbian school lessons are produced. Since 1992 it has been producing contributions for the Lower Sorbian-Wendish television magazine Łužyca , which is broadcast monthly on the RBB .
