The landscape protection area Berchumer Heide, Reher Heide with an area size of 622.70  ha is located in the area of the independent city of Hagen , district Berchum and Reh, in North Rhine-Westphalia . The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen. The LSG consists of two sub-areas. Parts of the landscape protection area south of the Berchum location are shown in the area development plan as a residential area. If the zoning plan is changed, these areas will no longer be designated as a landscape protection area.

description

In the north, the LSG borders directly on the city limits of Schwerte and the Unna district . Berchum is to the west. There are built-up areas in the southwest. The Bemberg nature reserve borders in the south . It goes in the east to the city limits to Iserlohn in the Märkisches Kreis (MK). The areas in the MK belong to the Iserlohn Type A landscape protection area and the Wannebachtal nature reserve (Iserlohn) . The LSG encloses the nature reserve Unteres Wannebachtal and the nature reserve Oberes Wannebachtal . The Upper Wannebachtal nature reserve also separates a small part of the Berchumer Heide, Reher Heide landscape protection area from the rest of the LSG.

In the LSG there are predominantly closed forest areas in the south with deeply incised sieves and ponds with numerous endangered plants and animal species. Particularly valuable pools and ponds have been designated as protected landscape components. In the north there are mostly agriculturally used areas with fields and grassland. There is also a golf course in the northern area. In the vicinity of the Schälker Landstrasse there is a historical place of execution, the Reher Galgen , marked in the area by a small mound of earth. This facility is designated as a cultural monument. In the LSG the Rehberg is 229 m high.

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, the designation was made “to maintain and restore the efficiency of the natural balance, in particular by securing natural habitats; because of the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of the landscape, which is characterized by the alternation of extensive forests with grassland areas of the Wannebach Valley and because of the special importance of the Reher- and Berchumer-Heide as well as the adjacent areas as a recreation area, especially for the quiet relaxation through the Experience natural habitats ”.
