The landscape protection area flowing waters and floodplains with 958.28 hectares is located in the urban area of Paderborn in the Paderborn district . The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated in 1999 by the district council with the landscape plan Paderborn - Bad Lippspringe . The LSG consists of 16 sub-areas that are often separated from each other by roads such as the A 33.

In the cities of Paderborn and Bad Lippspringe, the LSG comprises areas of the Lippe , Alme , Pader , Ellerbach and Beke rivers with alluvial areas. Several protected areas such as the lip lowers nature reserve between Bad Lippspringe and Mastbruch border directly on the LSG. In the Almetal, the Almetal landscape protection area borders to the south .
In the LSG there is wet and damp grassland, riverbank tall herbaceous meadows, reeds and bank trees. Ellerbach and Beke are typical arid valleys which dry out at times.
The former state horticultural show in Paderborn is located in the LSG.
The springs, ditches and streams should be protected from cattle kicking, pollution and nutrient input by sufficiently wide buffer zones. Non-local trees such as hybrid poplars and conifers should be replaced by local deciduous trees that are appropriate to the location after the cut. Bank trees and hedges made from local deciduous trees that are appropriate to the location, borders on paths and bodies of water as well as orchards should be created for the purpose of networking biotopes, and gaps in bank trees, hedges, fruit trees, rows of trees and head trees, avenues and field trees should be closed. Rare and endangered plant and animal species are found in the LSG.
