The landscape protection area open spaces northeast of Westheim with 180.9  ha is in the urban area of Marsberg and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Marsberg landscape plan . The LSG was designated as a type B landscape planning area, peripheral locations, open land and cultivated land protection.

In the LSG there are open agricultural areas with fields and grassland. The LSG begins on the outskirts of Westheim (Marsberg) . The federal highway 7 runs through the LSG.

Protection purpose

The designation was made to ensure the diversity and uniqueness of the landscape in the vicinity of the localities and the old agricultural priority areas by keeping it open and because of the special importance for recreation.

Legal regulations

As in the other landscape protection areas in the urban area, the LSG prohibits the construction of structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue special permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other type B landscape protection areas in Meschede, the LSG prohibits initial afforestation and the creation of Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nurseries . There is a requirement to keep the LSG free of forest cover through agricultural use or suitable maintenance measures.
