Landscape protection area slopes and high altitudes around Winterberg and Elkeringhausen

The landscape protection area slopes and highlands around Winterberg and Elkeringhausen with 115.27 hectares is located in the urban area of Winterberg . The area was in 2004 by the council of Hochsauerlandkreises with the landscape plan Winterberg as a conservation area designated (LSG). The LSG was designated as one of seven type B landscape protection areas on the outskirts, open land and cultural landscape protection in the city of Winterberg. In the urban area there is also a type A LSG, general landscape protection and 13 type C, meadow valleys, protection of significant extensive grasslands . The LSG consists of 14 areas around Winterberg and Elkeringhausen . Most of the sub-areas border directly on the settlement area. The LSG is part of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park . Smaller sub-areas have belonged to the FFH area Bergwiesen bei Winterberg (DE 4717-305) since 2004 .

The LSG consists of open land areas with grassland. The high-altitude grassland areas are used as hay pastures up to a few horse pastures.

Protection purpose

The designation was carried out to ensure the diversity and uniqueness of the landscape in the vicinity of the localities and the old agricultural priority areas by keeping it open. Also because of its special importance for recreation.

Legal regulations

As in the other landscape protection areas in the city, the LSG prohibits building structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue exceptional permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other type B landscape protection areas in Winterberg, the LSG prohibits first afforestation and the creation of Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures .

As in all landscape planning areas of type B and type C in the urban area, there is a requirement to keep the LSG free from forest cover through agricultural use or through maintenance measures.
