The landscape protection area cultural landscape complex Grönebach / Hildfeld with 293.6 hectares is located in the urban area of Winterberg . The area was in 2004 by the council of Hochsauerlandkreises with the landscape plan Winterberg as a conservation area designated (LSG). The LSG was designated as one of seven type B landscape protection areas on the outskirts, open land and cultural landscape protection in the city of Winterberg. In the urban area there is also a type A LSG, general landscape protection and 13 type C, meadow valleys, protection of significant extensive grasslands . The LSG consists of twelve sub-areas and borders directly on the outskirts of Grönebach and Hildfeld .

The LSG consists of open land areas with grassland and fields. In the grassland there are also species-rich red fescue pastures and golden oat meadows, which are important for species and biotope protection.
The landscape plan explains the LSG: “Many grassland areas in this cultural landscape complex - especially in the Hille and Grönebach valleys, but also others - are of particular importance for biodiversity and biotope protection; they are partly covered with further protective regulations for the maintenance of grassland. Its abundance of flowers and the existing enrichment of the open spaces with various field trees increases the value of the protected area both as a landscape-aesthetically important contrasting dream to the surrounding, closed forest areas and as a rounding off area for the wet meadow protected areas in the lowlands, which are outstanding in terms of ornithology and vegetation. "
Protection purpose
The designation was carried out to ensure the diversity and uniqueness of the landscape in the vicinity of the localities and the old agricultural priority areas by keeping it open. Also because of its special importance for recreation.
Legal regulations
As in the other landscape protection areas in the urban area, the LSG prohibits the construction of structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue special permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other type B landscape protection areas in Winterberg, the LSG prohibits first afforestation and the creation of Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures .
As in all landscape planning areas of type B and type C in the urban area, there is a requirement to keep the LSG free from forest cover through agricultural use or through maintenance measures.
