The Lennegebirgskamm landscape protection area (Lenscheid, Saal, Hohenwibbecke) with an area of ​​82.1  hectares is located in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis as a landscape protection area (LSG) with the name landscape protection area 5 partial areas on the Lennegebirgskamm near Lenscheid and an area size of 24.11 hectares. During the reorganization of the Sundern landscape plan, the LSG was shown again and significantly enlarged. The LSG is located around the hamlets of Saal (Sundern) and the individual settlements of Lenscheid and Hohenwibbecke . The LSG is part of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park . The LSG covers open land on the ridge of the Lennegebirge and comprises four sub-areas.

The LSG describes the landscape plan as follows: “The definition of almost all of the remaining open spaces, predominantly used as grassland, around the above-mentioned settlement areas ensures the identity of their sites, which are here as parts of other populated and agriculturally used open spaces on the otherwise extensive, wooded high ridge to the north of the Lenne and Gling valleys. "

Protection purpose

Legal regulations

As in the other type B landscape protection areas in the urban area, the LSG prohibits the construction of structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue exceptional permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other type B landscape protection areas in Sundern, the LSG prohibits first afforestation and the creation of Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures .

As for all landscape protection areas of type B in the landscape plan area, the requirement was issued to keep the area free of forest through agricultural use or through suitable maintenance measures.
