The landscape protection area Oberlauf der Röhr with 6.1  hectares is located south of the hamlet Brenschede in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 when the Sundern landscape plan was redesigned . The LSG was designated as a type C landscape protection area , meadow valleys and significant extensive grassland. The LSG is surrounded by the Sundern nature reserve . Before that, the area was part of the Sundern nature reserve from 1993. The LSG is directly adjacent to Brenschede.

The LSG comprises grassland areas in the valley floor of the Röhr between Brenschede and Kloster Brunnen. The narrow Bachaue is mostly close to nature. The flowing water is in sections accompanied by linear alder galleries. The grassland is swelling wet grassland for long stretches.

The landscape plan explains the value of the LSG: "The low mountain valley, which is also important in terms of landscape aesthetics, is a valuable networking biotope in this forest landscape dominated by coniferous forests and at the same time, with its unwooded areas, has a significant stepping stone function for open land species from an ecological point of view."

Protection purpose

The landscape plan elaborates on the protection purpose: “Supplementing the NSG stipulations of the floodplains to form a grassland biotope network system that creates opportunities for animals and plants to migrate and spread and thus serves to maintain the efficiency of the natural balance. At the same time, due to their predominant location in the wooded planning area, the open floodplains have a structuring and invigorating effect on the landscape and thus contribute to safeguarding its diversity, individuality and beauty. Furthermore, (extensive) grassland areas should be preserved, which are of particular importance for the protection of biotopes and species. "

Legal regulations
