The landscape protection area Offenlandinsel Osterwald with 59.3  hectares is located in the urban area of Schmallenberg . The area was designated in 2008 by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis with the Schmallenberg Southeast landscape plan as a landscape protection area (LSG) of type B, peripheral location, landscape character . The LSG consists of 13 sub-areas. The LSG extends to the houses in Osterwald . These are the open land areas with grassland and fields.

Protection purpose

The designation was carried out to ensure the diversity and uniqueness of the landscape in the vicinity of the localities and the old agricultural priority areas by keeping it open.

Legal regulations

The landscape protection area Offenlandinsel Osterwald was designated as one of 71 landscape protection areas of type B, location on the outskirts, landscape character in the urban area of ​​Schmallenberg. As in the other type B landscape protection areas in Schmallenberg, the LSG prohibits first afforestation and the creation of Christmas tree , ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures. In the Schmallenberg urban area there are also two type A landscape protection areas (general landscape protection) and 58 type C landscape protection areas (meadow valleys and significant extensive grassland) with different requirements.

As in all type B landscape planning areas in the urban area of ​​Schmallenberg, there is a requirement to keep the LSG free from forest cover through agricultural use or through maintenance measures.
