The landscape protection area Roter Stein, Zimmerberg with an area of ​​142.74  hectares is located in the area of ​​the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen.

In the west and northwest, the protected area extends to the development in the Nahmerbachtal and Hohenlimburg . The LSG borders directly on the Lenne-Niederung landscape protection area in the north . In the northeast is the Iserlohn Type A landscape protection area and the Märkischer Kreis protection area in the east and south .

In the LSG, there are mainly forest areas, some with valuable trees, east of the Nahmer Valley. The LSG is crossed by numerous brooks. The highest mountains are Zimmerberg (320 m) and Roter Stein (271 m).

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, the designation was made “to maintain and restore the efficiency of the natural balance, in particular by securing urban climatic and ecologically important compensation areas (valuable forest communities), because of the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of the landscape due to the valuable forest communities with partly well-developed herbaceous vegetation and because of the special Significance of the forest area for recreational use geared towards experiencing nature ”.
