The Schmallenberg Southeast landscape protection area with 11,304 hectares is located in the Schmallenberg urban area . The nature reserve was awarded the 2008 landscape plan Schmallenberg Southeast by the County Council of Hochsauerlandkreises as a conservation area designated (LSG). The LSG is located in the southeast of the Schmallenberg urban area. Most of these are forests with spruce and intensively used grassland.
The LSG Schmallenberg SO has been designated as LSG Type A, General Landscape Protection. Among other things, it is forbidden to erect buildings. Initial afforestation and also the new planting of Christmas tree cultures, ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures are subject to official approval from the Lower Landscape Authority . In the city there is also the LSG Type A landscape protection area Schmallenberg Northwest . There are also 129 nature conservation areas of type B and C.

Most of these are forests with spruce and intensively used grassland. Numerous other landscape protection areas and also nature protection areas , natural monuments and protected landscape components are within the LSG.
Legal regulations
Initial afforestation and also the new planting of Christmas tree cultures, ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures are subject to official approval from the Lower Landscape Authority . As in the other type A landscape protection areas, the LSG prohibits building structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry, the public supply of electricity, gas, telecommunications services, heat and water, wastewater management or an existing adjacent commercial operation are excluded from the ban ( Section 35 (1) No. 1 and 2 of the Building Code ). The construction of wind turbines and hydropower plants is also permitted with a building permit.
