The three largest theaters in Denmark outside of Copenhagen are called Landsdelsscene (Danish for regional theater ): the Odense Teater , the Aarhus Teater and the Aalborg Teater .

background

The three theaters offer a varied repertoire of traditional and experimental forms of theater. One thing the theaters have in common is that they often complement their permanent ensemble with guest actors . The theaters formerly subsidized by authorities and municipalities have only received state subsidies since the municipal reform in 2007.

Regional theater of the greater Copenhagen area

The former Den Storkøbenhavnske Landsdelsscene (Regional Theater of the Metropolitan Region of Copenhagen), DSL for short , is no longer counted as a Landsdelsscene. The DSL was an umbrella organization for about a dozen theaters in Copenhagen and existed from 1976 to 1991. Then it was replaced by the Det Storkøbenhavnske Teaterfællesskab (Theater Community of the Metropolitan Region of Copenhagen), DST for short . In 2005, in the course of municipal reforms, it was finally converted into the organization Københavns Teater (Copenhagen Theater), which currently manages five theaters with around 30 stages.
