The Landsverk L-30 was a light Swedish tank from the 1930s.
history
The durability of the track drives of the first tanks often left a lot to be desired. Therefore, and in order to increase the march speed into the staging area, many experiments were carried out with wheel / crawler tracks until the 1930s. In Sweden, for example, the L-30 wheel / chain armored vehicle was developed parallel to the Landsverk L-10 , with which it had a lot in common. Like the L-10, it had a welded hull and inclined front armor plates and radio equipment. Both vehicles were designed by the German engineer Joseph Vollmer . At that time, Vollmer was co-owner of the Deutsche Automobil-Construktionsgesellschaft (DAC). Vehicles and engines were designed by this company until 1936 and then sold as a complete factory drawing to motor vehicle and engine factories against payment of a license. Since the manufacture of tanks was forbidden in the German Reich due to the provisions laid down in the Versailles Peace Treaty , this had to be done in secret or abroad. For this reason, Gutehoffnungshütte , based in Oberhausen, acquired AB Landsverk in Landskrona . In 1930 this commissioned the DAC with the development of tanks. The Swedish armed forces ordered a copy at the end of 1931, which was not delivered until 1935. This received the army designation Stridsvagn fm / 31 (Strv fm / 31). Since it did not meet expectations - in particular there were problems with the complicated chassis - it was shut down as early as 1936. The vehicle has been preserved and can be viewed today in the “Sveriges Försvarsfordonsmuseum - Arsenalen” in Strängnäs.
