Landward of Minden

Landward (also Landowardus or Lantward ) († September 26 or 27, 969 ) was Bishop of Minden from 958 to September 969 .

ancestry

Landward is said to be descended from a Count Eobonnis who in turn is said to descend in the paternal line from the Saxon progenitor of the Brunones Brunone and Duke von Engern . Eobonnis is said to have been connected to the Frankish ruling family on the mother's side .

Life

Landward was probably a member of the Hildesheim cathedral chapter before his time in Minden . From 958 he sat on the cathedra in the diocese of Minden . As a bishop, he was confidant and constant companion of Emperor Otto I 961 received Landward of Otto I. his regalia and the crosier . Landward accompanied Otto I to Italy and, as his advisor, helped shape Otto's expansive Italian policy. In 963 Landward took part in the synod that Leo VIII appointed Pope.

He probably died on September 27, 969. Some sources report a death on Cosmas and Damian's memorial day , September 26th.
