Milo of Minden

Milo von Minden († around 996) was Bishop of Minden from 969 to 996 .

Life

Milo von Minden was appointed Bishop of Minden by Emperor Otto II in 969 , after having probably worked as a canon in Cologne .

In 974 the priest Nandrot gave Lübbecke and the surrounding area to the diocese. In March 977, at his request, the emperor granted the bishop the right to coins, markets and customs. Since Minden is located on a crossing over the Weser , it generated considerable income, which the bishop used to rebuild the cathedral and the settlement after a fire.

991 Milo took of Minden in the campaign against the Slavs of Bernhard I. part.

Around 992 Milo founded the Benedictine convent Wittekindsberg near the Wittekindsburg , which was founded in 993 by the later Emperor Otto III. was placed under special protection. Around 1000 it was moved to Minden. The foundation walls of the old monastery church are still preserved today as a ground monument.
