from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helmward (also Helinwardus or Helmwardus ) († February 12 or 14, 958 ) was Bishop of Minden from 950 to February 12 or 14, 958 .

Helmward was a Benedictine monk . As bishop he inaugurated the second Minden cathedral in 952 or 953 to Gorgonius , Laurentius and Alexander , after the Carolingian cathedral was destroyed by fire in 947. His virtuous life and good sermons are also narrated . Helmward is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. His feast day is February 12th. This day is sometimes accepted as the day of his death. However, other sources report that Helmward died on the name day of Valentin von Terni , i.e. on February 14th.
