Lang & Schwarz Broker GmbH offers classic brokerage, market making and advice on going & being public , including IPO and corporate finance advice, and is a capital market partner of Deutsche Börse and capital market partner of the Düsseldorf Stock Exchange .

Company history

On January 19, 1996 the company was founded as Lang & Schwarz Börsenmakler GmbH. The founding board members were Thomas Lang and Jörg Schwarz. In the summer of 1998, the company was converted into a stock corporation. In addition to the original activity as a freelance broker, in 1999 the scope of business was expanded to include over-the -counter trading in shares and the first designated sponsoring mandates were taken over. In the same year today's S-Broker (at that time still pulsiv AG) was founded. Lang & Schwarz was involved as a co-founder, but sold their shares in 2001.

In 2000, the issuance of and trading in its own derivative products began . In the following years, the company grew primarily in this area and has since issued warrants , turbo certificates and themed certificates, including index certificates (this also includes wikifolio index certificates) in various values .

In 2001, Lang & Schwarz acquired a stake in vwd Informations Services GmbH , later Quotrix AG, now vwd TransactionSolutions AG . This stake was sold in 2005.

Thomas Lang resigned from the Board of Management on November 15, 2002 in the course of restructuring measures. From this point on, André Bütow took over responsibility for derivatives trading and market making as the new board member. Jörg Schwarz left the company on February 12, 2004. On July 1, 2004, Peter Zahn took over the Financial Services division as the new member of the Management Board.

The product range of OTC trading was expanded to include funds in 2006. In November 2006, Lang & Schwarz's derivative products were listed for the first time on the Stuttgart Stock Exchange in the EUWAX segment. In addition, the business field was expanded to include capital market advice and the company accompanied an IPO for the first time. On September 28, 2006, Lang & Schwarz shares were listed on the regulated market of the German stock exchange . In 2009, the company's shares were moved to the Entry Standard and are now listed on the Regulated Unofficial Market / Open Market (Basic Board).

As part of a corporate restructuring, Lang & Schwarz Broker GmbH was founded as a wholly owned subsidiary. It began operations on January 1, 2010 as a securities trading bank. In addition to the classic brokerage business, the purpose of the company is capital market advice and support. For this purpose it took over these business areas from the parent company. The IT subsidiary LS Gate was later merged with them. Also in 2010, Lang & Schwarz TradeCenter AG & Co. KG was founded as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the group, which started its business activities as a financial services institute with market making on December 1, 2010 and also took over business areas from the parent company. In this context, Lang & Schwarz Aktiengesellschaft returned its own permits to operate services within the meaning of the Banking Act and has since acted as the financial holding of the group supervised by BaFin .

The social trading investment platform wikifolio.com started in 2012. Lang & Schwarz was a co-initiator and has since acted as the issuer of the wikifolio index certificates . Lang & Schwarz TradeCenter AG & Co. KG took on the function of the calculation agent for the wikifolio indices and the market maker function. In 2013, Lang & Schwarz Aktiengesellschaft acquired a stake in wikifolio Financial Technologies AG. After the introduction in Germany, Wikifolio index certificates were offered to the public in Austria in 2013 and approved for distribution in Switzerland in 2015. Lang & Schwarz won the Certificate Award for the wikifolio index certificates 2015.

In 2016, Lang & Schwarz started the LS Exchange (LS-X) under the supervision of the Hamburg Stock Exchange . Lang & Schwarz TradeCenter KG is the sole market maker in this new stock exchange segment.

On October 31, 2019, Peter Zahn resigned as a member of the Executive Board as part of the succession plan. The previous Head of Finance at Lang & Schwarz Aktiengesellschaft, Torsten Klanten, was appointed to the Management Board with effect from November 1, 2019, responsible for the administrative areas. André Bütow was appointed chairman of the board at the same time. Since then he has been responsible for trading activities and IT across the group.
