The Langblättrige Wasserähre ( Aponogeton elongatus ) is an amphibious living plant from the family of the water ear plants .

description

This herbaceous perennial plant forms a tuber. The leaves are ribbon-shaped and grow out of a rosette. They are very delicate and have a wavy edge. The leaf surface is light green, yellowish green to reddish brown. The number of chromosomes is 2n = 40.

Occurrence

The plant has its natural range in Australia , from northern Australia to northeastern New South Wales, where it occurs in stagnant and flowing waters in shady and sunny places.

Systematics

Two subspecies can be distinguished:

  • Aponogeton elongatus subsp. elongatus : It occurs from northern Australia to northeastern New South Wales .
  • Aponogeton elongatus subsp. fluitans Hellq. & SWLJacobs : It occurs in Queensland .

Use in the aquarium hobby

Unlike a whole range of water spikes , this plant is only very rarely offered in specialist shops for planting aquariums . This type of water ear belongs to the demanding aquarium plants , among other things it needs a rest period in which the tuber can regenerate. The light requirement of the plant is very high. For her well-being she needs medium-hard water with pH values between 7 and 8.
