description

The Langgai Tinggang has a curved, single-edged, heavy blade. The blade widens from the handle to the location . The blade has a central ridge that begins after about one sixth of the cutting edge. At the beginning of the central ridge an ornament resembling three spikes of the same length is forged. The blade is designed just like that of the Niabor . The place becomes narrower and ends pointedly or slightly rounded. The handle is made of wood or horn and resembles the handle of the Mandau . The pommel is decorated with tufts of horse or goat hair . A sinuous ornament ( Indon. Entadok , Eng. Caterpillar ) is often attached to the center line. The scabbards are the same as those of the Mandau. The word Langgai means "longest tail feather of the hornbill ". The Langgai Tinggang is used by ethnic groups from Borneo.
