Lapin kamariorkesteri - Rovaniemen kaupunginorkesteri ( German Chamber Orchestra of Lapland - City Orchestra Rovaniemi ) is the northernmost professional chamber orchestra in Finland and the EU .

The orchestra has its headquarters in Rovaniemi , since 2011 in the newly built Korundi cultural center . But it takes place all over Lapland . The 18-member ensemble has been under the direction of John Storgårds since autumn 1996 .

In 2003, the Lapland Chamber Orchestra received the valopilkku award of the first television program of the Finnish Radio for the interpretation of the Luosto Symphony by Kalevi Aho (the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra was also involved in the performance ). The recording of the chamber symphonies by the Danish composer Vagn Holmboe was nominated for the 2013 Gramophone Award . In August 2014 the orchestra performed at the Carinthian Summer in Austria and at The BBC Proms in London. The recording of the concerts for theremin and horn by Kalevi Aho received the German ECHO Klassik for works from the 20th century in 2015 .
