Lapis room

The Lapis Hall was a former part of the building in the Vohwinkel district of Wuppertal that was listed as a historical monument . It was the event room that was built on the corner of the Alter Kaiser restaurant at the corner of Rubensstrasse / Vohwinkeler Strasse on Rubensstrasse . The hall , better known as Stadtsaal in the Vohwinkel district until the 1990s , was severely damaged in a major fire on New Year's Day in 2006.

No people were harmed in the fire, and the New Year's Eve celebrations ended a few hours earlier. The restaurant suffered only slight damage from the extinguishing water and soot from the fire. The neighboring historic town hall was also undamaged. The flat gable roof of the single-storey hall had collapsed and reconstruction made no economic sense.

The ruins of the building remained in place for four years until the remains of the outer walls were laid down and a public car park for 30 vehicles was set up there.

Originally, the street facade of the hall building was divided into five axes , with the two outer ones standing out as side risalites . The three central axes were separated from each other by pilaster-like wall templates. Templates and risalits formed crankings in the elaborately designed eaves . The facade was heavily banded and had large-format openings with round arches. Later on, the outer axes were completely closed and the middle ones in the lower area and the facade was smoothly plastered.
