Larry Nagel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Laurence W. "Larry" Nagel (* around 1945) is an American computer scientist and the main developer of SPICE .

Nagel studied electrical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, with a bachelor's degree in 1969, a master's degree in 1970 and a doctorate in 1975 with Donald Pederson . The subject of his dissertation was the development of the simulation program for analog electronic circuits SPICE. The development began under Ronald Rohrer , who initially supervised his dissertation (and used his Cancer program, which was developed as a class project under Rohrer at the university, but the name was unfortunately chosen), then after his departure at Pederson. A first version was presented in 1973, the second in 1975. He then worked as an engineer in various fields in the field of integrated circuits at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill , New Jersey and in Pennsylvania , where he was twenty years. Among other things, he developed the ADVICE program for circuit simulation and was project manager for the circuit simulation program Celerity and was involved in the development of other software tools for simulating devices and processes. He was involved in the development of the Kull-Nagel model for bipolar transistors and designed submicron analog circuits in NMOS technology. He then spent three years at Anadigics in New Jersey before founding his own consulting firm in 1998 (Omega Enterprises Consulting). He advised both in his old field and as an appraiser in court in patent proceedings. In 2008 he returned to California. He lives in Kensington, California .
