Larry Stewart (born March 2, 1959 in Paducah , Kentucky ) is an American country singer.

Beginnings

Although influenced musically by his father, a gospel singer, Larry was initially mainly enthusiastic about sport. A baseball scholarship from Nashville Belmont College took him to Music City. Here he could not escape the influence of the omnipresent country scene in the long run. After various smaller jobs he got the chance to work at MCA as a singer creating demo tapes.

Producer and songwriter Tim DuBois, who was looking for a lead singer for the newly formed group Restless Heart, noticed his exceptionally good voice.

Career

In 1984 Stewart joined Restless Heart . It was the beginning of an exceptionally successful creative period, which resulted in seven number 1 hits and four gold records . In 1992 he left the band to start a solo career. A year later, his debut album was released on RCA, from which the top ten single Alright Already was released. This initial success could not be repeated. The following titles did not get beyond the middle of the top 100. A change to the Columbia label in 1994 did not bring about a change either.

In 1994 Stewart and three more of the original five Restless Heart members met for a studio session. In 1998 they met again to record some additional songs for a best-of album. Stewart was at the time under contract with the Windham Hill label, where the album Learning To Breath was in the works. So it took another three years before they could reunite with the original line-up and record a new album with Still Restless . In addition to his activities as a singer, Larry Stewart was also successful as a songwriter. He often used his own material for his albums, but others, such as Faith Hill , also used his songs.
