Lasaia Sula is a butterfly ( butterfly ) from the family of Gossamer (Lycaenidae).

The wingspan of the moth is 22 to 32 millimeters. On the upper side, the wings of the males are colored brightly metallic blue, which is why the species is called the Blue Metalmark in English . Females are colored ocher to gray-white on the upper side. The undersides of the wings have a whitish to brownish color. All wings are piebald in both sexes with black dots. The apex of the forewings is pointed.

distribution and habitat

Lasaia sula occurs in southern Texas as well as in large parts of subtropical South America as far as Honduras . The subspecies Lasaia sula peninsularis is common in Central America. The species prefers to live in open forest landscapes and on agricultural areas.

Way of life

The moths form several generations per year, which can be found at least from April to November. Legumes (Fabaceae), especially Albizia species, serve as food plants for the caterpillars .
