The Lasarew Mountains ( Russian Горы Лазарева Gory Lasarewa ) is an approximately 40 km long mountain range on the Oates coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It towers along the Matusevich Glacier south of Eld Peak .
The first aerial photographs of the area come from Operation Highjump (1946–1947). Further investigations followed by the 2nd Soviet Antarctic Expedition (1956-1958) and the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions in 1959. Participants of the Soviet expedition named the mountains after Mikhail Petrovich Lasarew (1788-1851), commander of the Mirny frigate during the first Russian Antarctic expedition (1819–1921) under the direction of Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen .
