Laser pod

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Laserpod is the brand name of an electronic device that creates lighting effects that resemble constellations and space nebulae for entertainment purposes. A laser and several light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are located in the cylindrical housing . Using a reflector, a scatter ball and mechanical rotation by an electric motor, constantly moving effects are projected onto walls or ceilings, which are so far unique in this form. In contrast to the lava lamp , however, a pattern of how the projection repeats itself can be seen after a while; so it does not arise completely by chance . A diffuser and a frosted glass hood are included as accessories . These can be placed on the laser pod. This turns it into a kind of lamp, as the projection takes place from the inside onto the dome and the edge of the hood. Another variation is to fill the hood with smoke.

The laser pod, which received the Contemporary Light of the Year 2006 award, was invented by British light artist Chris Levine.

The first model was presented to the public in 2005. It has an aluminum housing, three red lasers, two blue LEDs and one violet LED. In the course of time, some successor models have appeared, which are mainly characterized by additional LED colors. The newest and most extensive model also has a green laser. Depending on the model, the retail price starts at around 70 euros.

The laser pod is particularly well-known on the Internet, as many online shops for lighting technology and gift items offer this device and well-known online media such as Telepolis have published an article about the laser pod. On June 7, 2006, the television station N24 finally broadcast a report it had produced itself . The laser pod has already been used in well-known discos on Ibiza such as B. Pacha or Space used.
