Latif Nazemi

Latif Nazemi ( Persian لطیف ناظمی- Latīf Nāzemī ; * May 11, 1947 in Herat ) is an Afghan poet , literary critic and writer of modern Persian literature . He is considered to be the most important living Afghan poet. Latif Nazemi lives and works in Germany .

Life

Latif Nazemi first attended school in Herat. After graduating from high school, he studied Persian literature ( Farsi-Darī ) at the University of Kabul . He received his doctorate and later taught the subject as a lecturer. From 1982 to 1984 Nazemi taught Persian literature at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Latif Nazemi has lived in exile in Germany in Frankfurt am Main with his wife and four sons since 1990 and works for the radio station Deutsche Welle .

As President of Afghan State Television, he made a significant contribution to freedom of expression in Afghanistan.

His collection of poems Milād-e Sabz ( Green Birth ) was awarded the Afghan Prize for Poetry in 1975 . In addition to three volumes of poetry, Latif Nazemi has published several hundred essays in the Afghan and international press.
