The mold beetles (Latridiidae) are a family of beetles .

features

With a size of only 0.25 to 3.2 millimeters, the beetles are very small and live well hidden and can be found wherever molds and their spores can be found that serve them as food. That is why most of the mold beetles are mycetobiont (dependent on fungi).

Way of life

The animals live in many different areas, such as: B. in piles of hay and straw, in dried up parts of plants, in leaves and sludge of forests , under bark, in bird nests, but also in cellars and apartments z. B. behind damp wallpaper .

Systematics

They occur worldwide with approx. 1,000 species in 29 genera , of which 189 species and subspecies are native to Europe.
