Laudes Domini

Laudes Domini (lat. "Praise of the Lord") is the name of a poem written in Autun between 316 and 326 by an unknown author.

The poem is written in 148 hexameters and tells about a wonderful event, wrought by Christ , in which a deceased welcomes her deceased husband with a loving hand movement in her sarcophagus . At the end there is a prayer for the victorious Emperor Constantine and his family. The verses are designed to strengthen belief in the resurrection and return of Christ . The poet orientates himself on the language of Virgil , Horace and Ovid .
