The Lauerbach Chapel in Fuchsstadt.

The Lauerbach Chapel is located in the Lower Franconian community of Fuchsstadt in the Bavarian district of Bad Kissingen .

history

The chapel was built in 1864 next to an oak that was almost a thousand years old at the time. Most likely there was an image of Mary or a cross on the oak.

As the Fuchsstadt master carpenter Ludwig Heid reports in a letter from 1952 that has been handed down in the parish archives, the construction of the chapel goes back to the unmarried Elisabeth Schaub. She fainted and hemorrhaged near the oak and was asked in a vision to build a chapel there. However, their request was initially not taken seriously by the poor farmers. Only when Elisabeth Schaub's brother-in-law, the letter writer's father, dreamed of a procession to the Lauerbach, did he initiate the construction of a chapel under the oak.

The chapel was built by local businessmen and craftsmen. The statue of the Mother of God was a gift from the Guardian of the old town ( Hammelburg ) monastery at the time and was transported to the chapel by Elisabeth Schaub. The chapel was inaugurated by parish administrator Jessenberger.

During the German War of 1866, the people of Fuchsstadt successfully sought protection from the Prussian troops in the Lauerbach Chapel, as an inscription on the altar reminds of.

Until 1969, the chapel was the destination of a procession on the second day of prayer every year . Marian services are held in the chapel on Sundays and public holidays, especially in May.

In the course of time, the image of the Mother of God transported to the chapel by the donor Elisabeth Schaub had to be brought to the Assumption Church in Fuchsstadt due to the risk of theft . The Fuchsstadt horticultural association has taken on the sponsorship of the chapel. The former oak next to the chapel had to be felled in 1983. On "Tree Day 1984" a new oak was planted in its place.
