Fuchsstadt is a community and a parish village in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen and a member of the Elfershausen administrative community .
geography
The community lies in the valley of the Franconian Saale , which is enclosed by the foothills of the Bavarian Rhön . From the Kohlenberg chapel, near which rare silver thistles and pasque flowers grow, one has a view of the town, the Saale valley, Saaleck Castle , Hammelburg and its vineyards, the Intelsat earth station and the Sodenberg as the highest point. An educational forest trail leads through the Fuchsstädter (in dialect: Fuschter) forest and shows the varied local fauna and flora. There are many sights in the vicinity, such as B. Trimburg , Saaleck Castle, Botenlauben ruins . The Kreuzberg in the Rhön and the cities of Würzburg , Schweinfurt and Bad Kissingen are not far either. The community consists only of the main town, there are no other districts. The Franconian Marienweg runs through Fuchsstadt .
Surname
etymology
It is often wrongly assumed that the name Fuchsstadt has something to do with a fox , which is also depicted in the municipal coat of arms. The name consists of the personal name of the local founder, Fusso, and the Old High German word stat , which means residence. As an explanation, the result is the “Abode of Fusso”.

coat of arms
Blazon : "In red two silver bars, applied a fox alternately divided by gold and red." | |
Coat of arms story: The fox in the coat of arms stands for the community name. The two silver bars in red are taken from the coat of arms of the extinct lords of Fuchsstadt, who had been wealthy in the municipality since the middle of the 13th century at the latest. This local noble family was enfeoffed with the Fulda possessions in the municipality. The Fürststift Fulda has been occupied in Fuchsstadt since 907.
The coat of arms was awarded by the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior on August 13, 1959.
