The former office of the Hochstift Würzburg , which belonged to the Franconian Empire , was left to Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg after secularization in 1803 in favor of Bavaria in 1805 , and with this in 1814 it finally fell to Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the municipal edict of 1818 created the municipalities of Oberriedenberg and Unterriedenberg, which were combined to form the municipality of Riedenberg on April 1, 1971.

coat of arms

Blazon : "Above a green three-mountain split by silver and black, with a continuous wavy bar that is red at the front and silver at the back."

Coat of arms history: The community of Riedenberg was created in 1971 through the merger of Ober- and Unterriedenberg. The formerly independent community of Unterriedenberg has been documented since 1425 and belonged to the Fulda Abbey. Oberriedenberg was first mentioned in a document in 1494 and should be removed by a decree of the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg to curb further clearing. The dispute over it did not end until 1571. The affiliation of both places to different territorial areas did not end until 1803 with the end of the old empire. The two districts are separated by a stream, which is symbolized in the coat of arms by the wavy bar. For Oberriedenberg, the colors silver and red from the coat of arms of the Hochstift Würzburg in the front half of the shield indicate that it belonged to the Würzburg office of Aschach. The colors silver and black in the rear half of the coat of arms indicate that Unterriedenberg once belonged to the Fulda Oberamt Brückenau. The three mountain in the shield foot stands for the place name part "-berg" of the two parts of the community.

The coat of arms was awarded by the government of Lower Franconia on December 8, 1980.
